Avoid holiday weight gain

Posted by admin on 16th December 2009

pic80 Eating healthy during the holidays can be real challenge unless you have a great strategy. Here some tips to help and avoid packing on the pounds at a buffet table.

1. Be a food snob, if the food you select doesn’t taste as good as you expected. Stop eating it and chose something else. Think of how much less you’d eat if you only ate things that taste fabulous.
2. Think of your appetite as an expense account. How much do you want to spend on appetizers? Do you want to save some room for dessert?
3. Pace your eating prior to the event so you will be hungry but not famished at mealtime. Ignore the old diet advised of “eat before you go to a party so you wont be tempted” that is absurd! You want to be hungry enough to enjoy your favorites.
4. Socialize away from the sight of the food. Hanging around food causes people to eat more they need.
5. Survey all the food at a buffet before making your choices. Choose the foods that really want most at the time and remind yourself that you can have the other food later.

Stretching

Posted by admin on 27th November 2009

When was the last time you bought a new bed? Maybe you considered putting a sheet of fly wood under your mattress to support your back. Many activities in a typical day may put stress on your back that result in minor aches and pain in the long term they can cause chronic back problems.

Believe it or not many back problems can start while you’re asleep. I observe many people like lying on a carpeted floor because it is firm but its may not help. One of the best things you can do to reduce the risk of the back pain is to stretch before you get out of bed. Stretching will start to warm and lubricate your back, try lying on your back in a relaxed position with your legs extended. Slowly raise your arm over your head and lay them on the bed. Gently reach with both arms as far over you head as you comfortably can. Then add your legs and toes to the exercise, pointing your toes towards the foot of the bed. Remember to stretch only to the point of mild tension, hold the stretch for ten seconds and then allow your whole body to relax. Repeat this stretch a few times. You might also want to try it with one arm at time. Keep your back straight and your head up as you rise.

Stretch before getting up- when you wake up in the morning, the blood flow is lack through the spine that makes your back vulnerable to strains. Our muscles are tight and joints are dry that why you should do first the stretching. The good thing you can do to avoid back strain is to stretch before you get up. Stretching will start warming up your body and lubricate your back. Try something simple way as you lying on your back in a relaxed position with your legs extended. Slowly raise your arms over your head and lay then on the bed. Gently reach with both arms as far over your head. Then, add your legs and toes to the exercise pointing your toes toward the foot of the bed. Do this fro ten seconds and allow your body to relax.

2.Use the log roll technique- the technique goes like this as you are lying on your back, roll over onto your side so you are facing the side of the bed you plan to get out of. Gently bring your knees toward the chest, keeping your legs in contact with the bed at all times. As you do this simultaneously use your hands and arms to push you upper body up off of the bed, let your legs fall slowly off the edge of the bed. As your upper body rises up, most of your weight will be on the hip, buttocks and thigh rather than the spine. Complete it the maneuver by putting your hands on your thigh and extending your back up as you push yourself up and out of the bed. Keep your back straight and head up a rise.
